IFI to Host Special Screening of ‘Cinegael Paradiso’ to Mark Publication of ‘Count Me Out’

Screening to take place on Sunday 4 May at 1.30pm.

The Irish Film Institute (IFI) has announced that it will host a special screening of Cinegael Paradiso, directed by Robert Quinn, on Sunday 4 May at 1.30pm. The event marks the publication of Count Me Out: Selected Writings of Filmmaker Bob Quinn, the new collection published by Boluisce Press, an imprint of the Journal of Music.

Cinegael Paradiso, made in 2004, is a 53-minute documentary that explores the work of Bob Quinn and the film company Cinegael, which he established in Conamara in 1973 with Seosamh Ó Cuaig and Toni Christofides. The company produced a number of works that had a significant impact on Irish film, including the first Irish-language feature film PoitínCaoineadh Airt Uí LaoireThe FamilyCloch, a range of documentaries for the Aisling Gheal and Im Aonar Seal series, and the Atlantean trilogy exploring connections between North Africa and Ireland.

Count Me Out: Selected Writings of Filmmaker Bob Quinn, edited by Journal of Music editor Toner Quinn, is a new collection that brings together the filmmaker’s writings over several decades, documenting his exploits in film and broadcasting, his travels and activism, and including essays on sean-nós singing in Conamara and the campaign for TG4.

The screening of Cinegael Paradiso is part of the IFI’s From the Vaults series and will be introduced by Robert and Toner Quinn. Copies of Count Me Out will be available in the IFI Film Shop at a specially discounted price on the day of the screening.
