Bob Quinn was given the Outstanding Contribution to Irish Documentary award at the Docs Ireland festival in Belfast last weekend (28 June). He was given the award for his many documentaries over sixty years, including Atlantean, The Family, Cloch, The Silent World, The Last Days of the Gaeltacht, the Pobal series, and many more.
The festival screened two episodes of the Atlantean trilogy and The Family. The latter was followed by a discussion about his work with Bob’s long-time collaborator Lelia Doolan and Bob’s son Toner Quinn, who recently edited the book Count Me Out: Selected Writings of Filmmaker Bob Quinn. The discussion was chaired by Hugh Odling-Smee and the award was presented by Festival Programmer Stuart Sloan.
